Astronomy

Camp Experiences

Light pollution has destroyed our ability to see the wonders of the stars at night from our city suburbs. But here at Stellar Science we offer the chance for your students on camp to see the universe in all its brilliance! Students can see the Rings of Saturn and marvel at the stars that ancient civilizations told stories about. It’s an astronomical experience!

Stellar Science integrates seamlessly into your camp experience, filling those long evenings with something that will stay with the students forever. We give everyone the chance to see the planets and stars through high quality telescopes. They will work with an expert (who is also a physics teacher for those really difficult questions) to demonstrate how the telescopes work. They will then give a bespoke guided tour of the night sky; viewing and explaining constellations, nebulae, galaxies, planets and stellar distances, and experiencing real astronomy first hand. Your students (and staff) will literally be star stuck by the magnificence.

School Experiences

Don't worry if your school can't offer camp experiences, we are happy to set up the telescopes on your oval, for a local experience. This has the benefit that parents can be a part of the evening, should they wish to join in.

The Technical Stuff

We use 10 inch Dobsonian reflecting telescopes, these are easy for students to guide and to aim at stellar objects.

We also have additional telescopes that auto-find objects for those students who have difficulty in aiming! Although we find the best year groups for viewing are Year 8 and up.

We are self-sufficient in any camp environment and will run observations at a time that suits your schedule. We run both pre-dawn and evening observations, or both if that is your preference. We just need a space to set up the telescopes that gives a clear view of the sky, and does not impede your campground space. If the weather is unsuitable for viewing we will run a dynamic show, with interactive activities and spectacular visuals to explain how stars are born, how we can generate light and the amazing world of astro-physics that will enthrall students in that time before bed.
